An InterActive General Chemistry Textbook
The Chemistry InterActive textbook aligns with the OpenStax™ Chemistry2e textbook. The interactive textbook presents essential information in an engaging environment - students requiring more detail can visit the OpenStax™ site.
The interactive textbook is used in distance learning and includes:
- Embedded activities with interactive graphs and animations that visually connect concepts giving "life" to the content. Many webpages have synchronization code that highlights text at a specific place in the animation. This create a strong visual connection between the animation and the relevant content on the webpage. - Timed-Repetitive Quizzes - assignable flashcards for building (and maintaining) chemical knowledge.
- Tutorials - interactive assignments that build primary connections between the facts stored in the database.
- Homework - assignments that use multi-step processes and higher order thinking skills. Homework problems build secondary connections.
- Labs - assignments that add sensory connections.
- Virtual labs - students perform labs that contain expensive or hazardous chemicals and specialized equipment. The virtual lab hovers over the lab report webpage . . . . data collected inside the virtual lab is entered on the webpage. Calculations based on the collected data are autograded . . . . students have 3 tries to enter the correct answer - feedback is given after each try.
- Hybrid labs - assignments that contain a hands-on lab and a virtual lab. The hands-on lab uses generally regarded as safe (GRAS) household chemicals. Both the virtual part and the hands-on part are autograded as described above for virtual labs.
